🔺Basnet: Our commonalities with China regarding Iran are more than our differences

◾Scott Bessent, U.S. Treasury Secretary, said Washington and Beijing agree on the importance of keeping the Strait of Hormuz open.

◾He said: “With China about Iran, our commonalities are more than our differences. China agrees that Iran cannot have nuclear weapons. China agrees that there must be free maritime trade in the Strait of Hormuz. China gets 50 percent of its energy from the Persian Gulf.”

◾Bessent added: “So I believe it’s on China to work on a suitable solution. We’ll see how they follow through.”

◾The U.S. Treasury Secretary also said that during the G20 meeting, he discussed with Russia and China possible economic measures against the Islamic Republic.
