Based on videos provided by the human rights organization “Karoon” to IranWire, despite the police’s violent برخورد on Monday, the ninth of Shahrivar, against young Arab protesters demanding jobs in front of the “Daab-el Khazaei” sugarcane company, this peaceful, protest gathering also continued on the evening of Wednesday, the 11th of Shahrivar.
A source familiar with the matter told IranWire that this is the eighth consecutive night that these young people have spent from night until morning in front of this sugarcane company in the city of Karoon in Ahvaz, in order to change the company’s hiring practices—prioritizing non-local workers and refusing to hire local, educated citizens who need work.
In one of these videos, the gathered young people say in Arabic: “We all have advanced diplomas and bachelor’s degrees, and the Daab-el Khazaei sugarcane company is only one kilometer away from our homes,” but they are deprived of the opportunity to work at this company.
Previously, a source familiar with the matter told IranWire that even to work in simple jobs at companies in Ahvaz, you must have the mediation of the Guards (IRGC) or be a member of the Basij.
