Axios, in a report, says the United States has given the Islamic Republic until Saturday to publicly condemn attacks on ships in the Strait of Hormuz.
It is expected that Abbas Araghchi, the Foreign Minister of the Islamic Republic, will meet his Omani counterpart in Muscat on Saturday to discuss the Hormuz crisis.
Axios says that three American officials, in a press briefing with reporters on Friday, said that this message had been conveyed to the Islamic Republic directly and through regional mediators.
According to Axios, a U.S. official told reporters that Iranian officials contacted the U.S. government after two days of clashes earlier this week and asked for more talks to resolve the dispute. The U.S. official said: “They told us, ‘We made a mistake. We made a mistake. Let’s keep talking.’”
Three commercial ships were attacked this week by the Islamic Republic, prompting Donald Trump, the president of the United States, to respond to the attacks with strikes by U.S. forces against targets in Iran.
