ABC News on Friday, 19 Tir (July 10), citing a U.S. official, reported that deciding on Iran’s highly enriched uranium reserves is the main condition of any agreement.
The official said: “Either they give us nuclear dust, or we have low-cost military options that will ensure it remains buried underground forever.” He called nuclear material the “key to the deal” and added that the United States has military, diplomatic, and economic levers at its disposal if the Islamic Republic resists. The official emphasized: “We want the dust,” and said: “If we don’t get the dust, there is no agreement with Iran.”
Donald Trump had previously raised the same demand. On Thursday, 27 Farvardin (April 16), Mr. Trump said the Islamic Republic had agreed to hand over what he called “nuclear dust.” He later also said that stocks of enriched uranium must be handed over to the United States immediately or destroyed on site.
Pete Hegseth, the U.S. Secretary of Defense, also said in an interview with CBS that the Islamic Republic must destroy these materials, remove them from the country, or dilute them to a lower level, and that the United States would be involved in this process “physically or through other means.”
