A U.S. Navy destroyer intercepted and destroyed a Houthi drone over the southern Red Sea, according to U.S. Central Command. The drone was reportedly moving toward international shipping routes when it was shot down.
CENTCOM said the action took place on Sunday amid continuing threats to commercial traffic in one of the world’s busiest maritime corridors. The statement did not report any damage to ships or injuries linked to the incident.
The Red Sea has remained a high-risk area as Houthi forces have carried out repeated attacks on vessels in the region. Those attacks have raised costs, disrupted trade, and increased concern for civilian crews and global supply chains.
The latest interception underscores the continuing tension around the waterway and the U.S. military response aimed at protecting international shipping. Officials have warned that such incidents could continue as long as the threat to commercial vessels remains active.
