Natural gas and oil prices rose after reports of an attack on a Qatari LNG-carrying vessel near the coasts of Oman, as it exited the Strait of Hormuz. The European natural gas index rose by more than 4.5% to 46 euros, equivalent to $52.5 per megawatt-hour. Brent crude oil prices also rose by 1.2% to about $73 per barrel, the highest level in the past week. State television of the Islamic Republic reported that the Qatari ship was targeted following disregard of warnings. Reports also emerged of a suspected attack on a tanker carrying Saudi crude oil, but details of the damage or the crew’s condition have not yet been clarified.
