🔶 U.S.: Iran should publicly commit to halting attacks in the Strait of Hormuz
The administration of Donald Trump, the U.S. president, has asked Iran to publicly announce that the Strait of Hormuz is open for the passage of ships and that the country will stop attacks on commercial vessels.
The news portal “Axios,” citing three U.S. officials, reports that this message was conveyed to Tehran directly and also through regional intermediaries.
According to the American officials, Iran has violated the three-week-old understanding with the United States through repeated attacks on commercial ships in the Strait of Hormuz; such that Donald Trump said this week that “the ceasefire is over.”
The Axios report also notes that Washington claims that the behavior of the Islamic Republic has created serious doubts about Iran’s readiness to carry out any complex agreement, including the nuclear deal.
