The New York Times: Iran’s cyberattacks exploited weaknesses in old telecommunications networks to track U.S. military personnel
The New York Times reported that Iranian cyberattacks have used security vulnerabilities in the SS7 signaling system to track the locations of U.S. military personnel and contractors in the Middle East during the war.
At the beginning of the war with Iran, a wave of location requests was observed through regional phone networks, including Bahrain, and it is believed this method was used to track devices connected to local networks.
