U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said the European Union has officially joined what he called the Islamic Republic’s “economic expulsion” operations, and Washington thanks Europe for its “firm and early” stance on the matter.
He said the United States, along with its allies, is standing “resolutely” to ensure that the Islamic Republic cannot use the global financial system to fund its nuclear program, arms programs, and proxy forces that Washington calls “terrorist.”
The U.S. Treasury secretary also accused the Iranian government of “mass killings,” and said that financial pressures on the Islamic Republic will continue until all remaining funding channels are cut off.
He added: “The world is sending a clear message to the Iranian government; we will not stop until all remaining financial channels are cut off.”
