The U.S. Embassy in Amman says Jordanian officials have evacuated the international airport and the seaport of Aqaba following a specific and credible threat.

Based on the security warning issued by the embassy on Sunday, July 19, U.S. citizens were strongly advised to avoid traveling to the airport or the port of Aqaba and to follow the security instructions of Jordanian authorities.

The U.S. Embassy in Amman also once again advised citizens of this country to avoid traveling to military bases in Jordan.

Aqaba is Jordan’s only port and is located in the south of the country on the Red Sea coast. The city is far from the successful Al-Sult and Al-Azraq bases, which were targeted by attacks from the Islamic Republic in the past days.
