🔶 State election in Saxony-Anhalt: AfD wins without an absolute majority

According to the definitive announcement of the results of the vote count in the state election in Saxony-Anhalt, the far-right party “Alternative for Germany” (AfD) was able to obtain around 43.8% of the votes.

The Alternative for Germany (AfD) party, with a striking margin over the governing Christian Democratic Party (CDU), led in the state election in Saxony-Anhalt, but it was unable to secure an absolute majority.

According to the announcement by officials of this state’s election administration, the “Alternative for Germany” party, with its candidate Ulrich Siegmund, won 43.8% of the votes. The party is assessed by the state’s Office for the Protection of the Constitution as a far-right movement. The Christian Democratic Union (CDU), with its candidate Son Scholtz, the state prime minister as well, came in second with 17.2% of the votes.

The Social Democratic Party (SPD) with 9.3%, the Greens with 8.9%, the Left (Die Linke) with 8.6%, and the Sarah Wagenknecht Alliance Party (BSW) with 5.3% entered the state parliament. In contrast, the Free Democratic Party (FDP) with 2.6% of the votes failed to secure a seat in parliament.
