Ship-tracking data from the Kepler Institute shows that the supertanker Humanity, carrying a cargo of two million barrels of Iranian oil, left the Strait of Hormuz on Sunday, July 12, which corresponds to 21 Tir.
The departure took place after the U.S. government last week revoked permission for the sale of oil and petrochemical products of the Islamic Republic.
The U.S. Treasury Department said that transactions allowed under this license must be completed by 26 Tir. The license was part of the U.S.-Iran ceasefire understanding and would have made it possible to sell oil until 30 Mordad.
The revocation of the license has left tens of millions of barrels of oil in limbo.
Based on a Bloomberg estimate using data from the Vortexa Institute, about 63 million barrels of Iranian oil are now on the water, most of which has no clear destination or buyer.
According to Kepler, more than 20 million barrels have also been left waiting at least seven days in Asian waters, representing an 18% increase compared with the week before.
