Dengue fever is one of the widespread diseases that claims lives in many parts of the world. In this photo, a municipal worker is pesticide-spraying an area of a market in Colombo as part of a dengue fever prevention campaign. A senior Sri Lankan official announced that, with support from the army, the country has stepped up its efforts to curb the spread of dengue fever, which is transmitted by mosquitoes. The number of deaths since the beginning of the year has increased to 49.
