Lebanon’s army said it has begun deploying its forces in this area after Israeli forces withdrew from the city of Zoutar al-Gharbiya in the south of the country.

According to a statement from the Lebanese Army command, the retreat was carried out within the framework of an agreement brokered by the United States. The Lebanese army asked citizens not to return to the city until the security situation is stabilized and to follow the instructions issued by the units deployed.

The U.S. State Department had previously said that Zoutar al-Gharbiya is one of three areas where the implementation of this agreement is being tested. The other two areas are the villages of Fourn and Safra.

Under this agreement, the Israeli army will gradually withdraw from occupied areas in southern Lebanon, and then the Lebanese army will take responsibility for security and for disarming Hezbollah.

On Tuesday, Joseph Aoun, the president of Lebanon, will meet Donald Trump, the U.S. president, at the White House, and is expected to present a proposal on how to disarm Hezbollah and ensure the withdrawal of Israeli forces.
