🔻Houthis of Yemen: We have downed a Saudi fighter jet
🔻The Houthis of Yemen on Wednesday claimed that they have shot down a Saudi fighter jet; they also said that they used “locally made” munitions to target the aircraft.
Yahya Sari‘a, a Houthi military spokesman, wrote on social media that Yemen’s armed forces “succeeded in downing an F-15 fighter jet of Saudi Arabia while it was carrying out hostile operations to support the country’s military activities in the airspace of the province of Ma’rib.”
Yahya Sari‘a said that the fighter jet was targeted “using a domestically made air-to-air missile.”
The spokesman also rejected Saudi claims in this regard that the Houthis have targeted the city of Mecca in the current week. He said: “Our operations target oil installations and military bases.”
Hours earlier, Saudi air defenses said that they intercepted and destroyed a drone launched by the Houthis of Yemen before it entered the restricted airspace over Mecca.
Since the renewed outbreak of Yemen’s civil war in July, the Houthis have been engaged in new battles with forces of the Yemeni government, which are backed by Saudi Arabia.
The group has also announced a maritime blockade against Saudi Arabia and targeted the country’s ships in the Red Sea.
