Hamid Hosseini, the spokesman for the Union of Exporters of Oil, Gas, and Petrochemical Products, told the Dideban Iran website that Iran faces a gasoline shortfall of nearly 20 million liters per day.

He said the maximum production capacity of the country’s refineries is about 110 million liters per day, while daily consumption reaches about 130 million liters.

Hosseini added that importing gasoline under current conditions has become “almost impossible” due to regional and international restrictions. He said the return of some petrochemical units to the production cycle has helped make up for part of the shortage, but it is not enough to resolve the shortfall.

The union spokesman for oil, gas, and petrochemical products also said that measures such as collecting free fuel cards and limiting the supply of free gasoline could be a sign that the government is reviewing changes to its gasoline policies.
