🔻Brent oil price, the benchmark contract in international markets, reached above $101 per barrel in early trading today. Brent oil price had jumped above $100 for the first time since July yesterday.

The increase in crude oil prices came after Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps announced that it had targeted two American vessels, eight oil tankers, and 10 other vessels that were trying to transit through the Strait.

The UK Maritime Trade Operations organization said that several commercial vessels in the north of the Persian Gulf and the Sea of Oman, which encompass the Strait of Hormuz, were “targeted with fire and disabled within the framework of ongoing military activities in the region.”

Donald Trump, the U.S. president, has promised that oil prices will fall once the United States wins a war that has been going on for more than six months.

At a gathering of Republicans in Texas, in a context where his party is grappling with Democrats in opinion polls, Mr. Trump said: “As soon as we win the war with Iran, oil will go down.”
