🔶 Axios: Trump rejected bin Salman’s request for the United States to attack the Houthis

Axios writes that Saudi Arabia’s Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, amid heightened fighting in Yemen and the Houthis’ advance on the Red Sea coasts, has asked U.S. President Donald Trump to order direct U.S. attacks against the Iran-backed group; a request the American president rejected.

The news website, citing two U.S. officials, reported that bin Salman called Trump twice on Thursday, 19 Shahrivar (September 10). In the first call, the Saudi crown prince informed the U.S. president of the worsening situation in Yemen, and a few hours later, in the second call, he requested a direct military attack by the United States on the Houthis.

Axios also wrote that despite Trump’s opposition to entering the war directly, Washington has increased its support for Saudi Arabia.

A U.S. official told the outlet that about 200 U.S. military personnel are present in Saudi Arabia, and the United States also provides Riyadh with information and data related to identifying the Houthis’ targets.
