🔸Amnesty International said Russia, in some cases, has used deception, coercion, and false promises to recruit foreign nationals for the war in Ukraine, and that this trend in many cases is “an example of human trafficking.”

🔸The human rights organization, in a report published on Thursday, 19 Shahrivar, said it interviewed more than 12 foreign nationals from different countries, including Colombia, Cuba, Egypt, Somalia, and South Africa, who were being held in two prisoner-of-war camps in Ukraine.

🔸According to Amnesty International, only three of the interviewees knew at the time they signed the contract that they were going to be sent to fight in Ukraine. Some others said they were recruited with promises of high pay, bonuses, and even the possibility of obtaining Russian citizenship, but these promises were not fully carried out.

🔸Prisoners of war from Brazil and Sri Lanka also said that after signing the contracts, their passports and mobile phones were confiscated and that the contracts were only in Russian. They also said that before being sent to the front line, they received only about two weeks of basic military training.
