Akbar Abdi, a film and television actor, has died.

🔸Akbar Abdi, a well-known Iranian film and television actor who had played roles in dozens of films and television series over more than four decades of artistic activity, died on Friday, the second of Mordad, at the age of 66.

🔸In recent months, Akbar Abdi had been dealing with physical problems, and in Ordibehesht of this year he was hospitalized for some time in an intensive care unit due to a heart attack.

🔸Akbar Abdi was born as Akabāqer Abdi on the fourth of Shahrivar 1339 in Tehran, and began his artistic career in 1358 with amateur stage performances. In the early 1360s, with his appearance in the television series “Mhel-e Boro Bia,” “Mashle Abad,” and “Bazam Madrese-âm Del Shod,” he became a well-known figure, and in 1363, with the film “Janjal-e Bozorg,” he entered cinema.

🔸Akbar Abdi’s widespread fame in cinema was shaped by films such as “Mardi ke Mosh Shod” and especially “Ejaré-Neshin-ha” directed by Dariush Mehrjویی in the mid-1360s. His ability to change tone, face, and movements—and to play characters with very different ages and traits—gradually made him one of Iran’s standout comedy actors.

🔸However, Abdi’s body of work was not limited to comedic roles. His performance as “Gholamreza” in Ali Hatami’s 1368 film “Madar” became one of the lasting roles of his career, and he received the Crystal Simorgh for Best Actor in a Supporting Role at the Fajr Film Festival.

🔸In later years, Abdi also acted in prominent films such as “Ey Iran” directed by Naser Taghvaee, “Delshadgan” directed by Ali Hatami, “Naser al-Din Shah Akter-e Cinema,” and “Honarpisheh” directed by Mohsen Makhmalbaf, demonstrating his ability in roles beyond conventional comedy.
