7,000 heat-related deaths recorded in France; 10 billion euros in damage to farmers

🔸The French health minister announced that during the severe heatwaves that swept through this country this summer, around seven thousand excess deaths were recorded.

🔸Stephani Rist said on Friday, 13 Shahrivar, that final statistics on deaths related to high temperatures will be published in the coming weeks.

🔸France’s public health agency had previously estimated that between 17 June and 2 July, the number of increased deaths in this country reached 5,764.

🔸The intense summer heat that affected a large part of Europe this year has also impacted France’s agricultural production, as France is the largest producer of agricultural products in the European Union.

🔸Due to unprecedented heat and a summer drought that caused severe damage to agricultural crops, grazing lands, and water resources, France announced on Friday that it would allocate more than one billion euros in financial aid to farmers.

🔸The main farmers’ union in France said that farmers in this country have so far suffered at least a 10 billion-euro reduction in output and losses. Livestock farmers also estimated their losses at more than five billion euros.

🔸Summer 2026 saw extremely widespread and unprecedented wildfires in the southwest of France, especially in the Gironde region and around Bordeaux, due to severe heatwaves and drought.

🔸France, along with Belgium and the United Kingdom, announced that summer 2026 was the hottest summer recorded in the country’s history.
