The UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs condemned the Islamic Republic’s missile attack on two UAE oil tankers in the Strait of Hormuz and called it a “maritime theft,” describing it as the harshest official response by Abu Dhabi since the start of the latest wave of attacks.
In a statement, the ministry said: “Targeting commercial shipping and using the Strait of Hormuz as a tool of pressure or economic extortion is maritime piracy and poses a direct threat to regional stability and its people and to the security of global energy.” The UAE also extended condolences to the government of India for the death of a crew member aboard the Mombasa tanker.
The UAE Ministry of Defense also announced that it is on full alert, described the attack as a serious violation of international law, and said it reserves the right to a “firm response to any attempt to undermine the country’s security and stability.” In the attack early on Tuesday on the Mombasa and Al-Bahri tankers in the waters of Oman, one Indian crew member was killed and eight people were injured.
