👈 Trump removed members of the Federal Commission
Donald Trump, the president of the United States, in a controversial move, removed two Democratic members and one Republican member of the U.S. Election Assistance Commission (EAC) or forced them to resign—an action that left this federal body without any commissioners only a few months before the 2026 midterm elections.
According to reports, “Thomas Hicks,” the commission chair, and “Benjamin Howland,” the two Democratic members of the institution, were removed from their positions, and “Christy McCormick,” the Republican member, was allowed to resign.
The White House confirmed the decision and said that the president has the authority to remove people from their posts who are not aligned with the mission of “ensuring election security and counting legally cast votes.”
