🔶 Three People Convicted in Bahrain to Life Imprisonment for Allegedly Spying for the IRGC
Bahraini officials announced on Tuesday, 23 Tir, that three people in the country have been sentenced to life imprisonment on charges of spying for Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC); an action that is the latest case in a chain of crackdowns on Iran-linked cells.
The Bahrain Public Prosecution, in a statement, said: “The three defendants were charged with conspiring with the IRGC of terrorist Iran and its agents to help carry out hostile and terrorist acts against the Kingdom of Bahrain and to harm its interests; the court convicted all of them to life imprisonment.”
Since the start of the war, the Gulf states—which have suffered the most damage from Tehran’s attacks—have intensified their crackdown on cells alleged to be linked to the IRGC.
Bahrain is governed under a Sunni monarchy, but this small kingdom has a large Shiite population that has long complained of marginalization and discrimination.
