Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei was buried on Friday morning at the shrine of the Eighth Imam of Shia Muslims.
Before the burial, his eldest son, Mostafa Khamenei, led the prayer over his father’s body.
After 131 days, Ali Khamenei was finally laid to rest. His funeral procession, in addition to Tehran and Qom, was held in cities in Iraq, including Najaf and Karbala, and ultimately in Mashhad.
During the funeral and burial ceremonies of Khamenei, his second son, Mojtaba, who was introduced after his father’s death as the leader of the Islamic Republic of Iran, was not seen at any of the ceremonies. This absence strengthened speculation about whether he was alive or in a critical condition.
Earlier, some media outlets reported that Mojtaba Khamenei would not take part in any of his father’s ceremonies on the recommendation of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps.
