The European Union and the United States have agreed to keep their steel and aluminium tariff truce in place for another 90 days, giving both sides more time to work toward a longer-term trade settlement. Officials said the extension was reached as negotiations continue over duties that have strained transatlantic commerce.
The temporary deal helps avoid a sharper escalation in trade tensions while talks remain unresolved. It also preserves a pause in tariffs that have been a source of friction between two of the world’s largest economic partners.
Both sides are expected to continue discussions over how to address market access, industrial policy and broader trade concerns. For now, the extension offers a limited window to prevent new disruption for manufacturers and exporters on both sides of the Atlantic.
The truce does not resolve the underlying disputes, but it signals that Washington and Brussels are still committed to finding a negotiated outcome rather than returning immediately to a tariff fight.
