🔶 Zakani: Night gatherings will continue as long as Majtaba Khamenei decides

Alireza Zakani, the mayor of Tehran, during a speech at a government night gathering, announced that these gatherings will continue until Majtaba Khamenei, the leader of the Islamic Republic, decides to do so—and “not in the sense that, according to the diagnosis of some people who want to close the file on the gatherings.”

Zakani’s emphasis on the continuation of night gatherings comes as, after the publication of a conversation between Parvaneh Salahshouri, a political activist and former representative in the Islamic Consultative Assembly, and “DidarNews,” the Tehran prosecutor’s office announced charges against this news website on Thursday, September 3 (12 Shahrivar). In that video interview, Salahshouri, while criticizing the holding of night gatherings, said that the continuation of this situation has led to the deprivation of peace for a number of citizens. With اعتراض to the current conditions and the increase in executions, she had asked the officials: “Why is it that ordinary people’s protests are called unrest, but some people, living with complete nighttime security, put the lives of many people in the shadows?”
