Four years after “Woman, Life, Freedom,” Pouran Nazemi—who was detained during the movement and subsequently faced security pressures and multiple criminal cases—talks in an exclusive interview with Deutsche Welle about the legacy and the continuation of the struggle in Iran.

Pouran Nazemi is a civil activist, poet, and one of the longstanding human-rights activists residing in Iran; a woman who has spent a significant portion of her life caught between repression and simultaneous activism.

From her teenage years, she was detained and subjected to ongoing security pressures; over the course of several decades of activity, she was detained again and again, went to prison, and multiple security cases were opened against her.

Supporting political prisoners and families of those seeking justice, fighting against the death penalty, defending women’s rights, political prisoners and people sentenced to death, and conducting civil activism in underprivileged areas of southern Kerman are part of her long track record on this path.
