The United Kingdom’s Maritime Trade Operations organization said the damage to a ship, 8 nautical miles northwest of the coast of Oman, was due to an impact from an unidentified projectile.
Based on the announcement by the organization, the ship’s crew has abandoned the vessel and the ship is currently adrift. Accordingly, the fire is still ongoing, but no environmental damage has been reported.
The organization, which previously had only reported a fire, classified the incident in its latest update as an “attack.”
On Monday morning, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps claimed that two oil tankers that had attempted to pass through the southern route of the Strait of Hormuz had exploded and gone out of service.
