🌱 The US was the only country to vote against a UN General Assembly resolution supporting the Equal Earth projection, which accurately depicts Africa's true size, a TASS correspondent reported.

The widely used Mercator projection distorts the sizes of territories. For example, it makes Greenland appear to be a similar size to Africa, when in reality it is about 14 times smaller.

The resolution will not ban the use of the Mercator projection. It calls on more than 190 UN member states to update their educational materials.
