🔻The U.S. Federal Reserve, in the shadow of the Iran war, examines interest rate concerns driven by inflation
The U.S. central bank, the “Federal Reserve,” is scheduled to hold its second meeting starting Tuesday, chaired by Kevin Warsh.
It is expected that, at the end of this meeting, the interest rate will remain unchanged for the fifth consecutive time in the range of 3.5% to 3.75%.
The meeting comes as consumer inflation in the United States fell to 3.5% last month, but still remains above the Federal Reserve’s two-percent target. The escalation of America’s war with Iran and the renewed rise in energy prices have further increased concerns about a return of inflationary pressure.
For the first time since late May, oil prices have crossed the $100 per barrel mark, and some U.S. Federal Reserve policymakers have warned that if inflation continues, an interest-rate increase could also be put on the agenda.
The Federal Reserve’s Federal Open Market Committee will announce its decision on Wednesday, after which Kevin Warsh will appear at a press conference.
