🔻Sweden summoned the Iranian ambassador and demanded the departure of an Iranian diplomat

🔻The Swedish Ministry of Foreign Affairs says it has summoned the Iranian ambassador and also asked one of the officials at the Iranian embassy in Stockholm to leave Sweden.

The ministry says this decision was made due to activity described as “incompatible with the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations,” but it did not provide further details about the nature of this activity.

Relations between Tehran and Stockholm have been tense in recent years. Sweden had previously summoned Islamic Republic diplomats in connection with the detention of Swedish citizens in Iran.

In June 2024, two Swedish citizens, Johan Flodروس and Saeed Azizi, were released from Iran as part of an agreement that led to the release of Hamid Nouri from prison in Sweden.

Sweden also, in July 2025, along with several European countries, the United States, and Canada, accused Iran of attempting to threaten, abduct, and harass opponents, journalists, and a number of other individuals in Europe and North America. Iran has rejected these accusations.

The Vienna Convention sets the rules and privileges related to diplomatic missions.
