Reuters reported that South Korea’s Ministry of Defense said on Tuesday, 17 Shahrivar that it had dispatched a team to assess the security situation in the Strait of Hormuz, but no decision has yet been made regarding sending military forces to the region.

According to Reuters, the move comes after U.S. President Donald Trump decided in Mordad to reduce joint U.S.-South Korea military exercises. Part of that decision was related to South Korea’s refusal to assist Washington in the U.S. war with Iran.

As reported by Yonhap news agency, citing South Korea’s Ministry of Defense, the team sent by the country departed for the United Arab Emirates at the end of last week and is expected to return to South Korea this week.

South Korea’s presidential office had previously said Seoul is reviewing various options, including military actions, to support freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz. The office had rejected reports about a definite government decision to send forces.
