🔶 Khalil al-Hayya becomes head of Hamas’s political bureau and the group’s top leader
The terrorist group Hamas, in a statement, introduced its new head of the political bureau, the highest-ranking position in this Palestinian organization.
According to Reuters, based on the statement released on Monday, July 20, Khalil al-Hayya will replace Yahya Sinwar, who was killed by Israeli forces in the 2024 clashes in Gaza that began after Hamas launched a wide and deadly attack on Israel.
Al-Hayya, who is in exile, is one of Hamas’s senior negotiators in ceasefire talks and previously served as the leader of Hamas in Gaza.
After the killing of Yahya Sinwar in Gaza and Ismail Haniyeh in Iran in July 2024, he has become one of the most prominent leadership figures of Hamas.
Israeli officials told Reuters that Al-Hayya was among senior Hamas officials targeted in a 2025 Israeli attack in Doha, the capital of Qatar.
