🔶 Iraqi Foreign Minister’s Trip to Oman; Bilateral Talks on the Strait of Hormuz

Abbas Araghchi, Iran’s foreign minister, arrived in Muscat on Saturday, 20 Tir (11 July) to meet and hold talks with Omani officials.

Iranian media reported that the visit follows bilateral consultations on the issue of the Strait of Hormuz.

ISNA wrote that the foreign ministers of Iran and Oman will hold discussions and exchange views on “arranging the necessary mechanisms for the safe passage of ships through the Strait of Hormuz, based on Article 5 of the Islamabad memorandum of understanding.”

Iran has previously repeatedly raised the issue of collecting fees from ships in the Strait of Hormuz, but Oman has opposed the proposal.
