CENTCOM begins investigating a deadly attack on a wedding venue in southern Iran

🔸The U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) has begun an internal review into the impact of a projectile that struck a wedding venue in Bandar Koohestak on Tuesday evening, the 10th of Shahrivar, coinciding with U.S. attacks on southern Iran, leaving five people dead and dozens injured.

🔸Axios website reported on Friday, the 13th of Shahrivar, citing U.S. officials, that Admiral Brad Cooper, the commander of CENTCOM, ordered an investigation into the incident on Wednesday.

🔸The United States has not yet accepted responsibility for the strike on the wedding venue, but officials of the Islamic Republic have blamed the U.S. military.

🔸According to U.S. officials, the target of the American forces in that area was a communications tower used for civilian and military communications. CENTCOM is now reviewing images from drones that monitored the area during the attack, as well as the process of identification and target selection.

🔸J.D. Vance, the deputy U.S. vice president, also said on Thursday evening that Washington is investigating the incident and wants to determine what happened.

🔸He added: “If we make a mistake, we still say this is a big difference between us and Iran: when our Army makes a mistake, it takes lessons from it so it can get better.”

🔸A CENTCOM spokesperson has also said that the U.S. military is aware of reports about civilian casualties and is reviewing them, but emphasized that American forces “never target civilians.”
