Britain increased its pressure on the shadow financial systems that keep Russia’s war economy running and doubled penalties for violations of sanctions.
Based on a statement by the UK Treasury, the cap on fines imposed by the Office of Financial Sanctions Enforcement has risen from 50% to 100% of the value of the breach.
In a statement published while attending the first G20 meeting in North Carolina, Britain’s finance minister John Healey said: “We are increasing the economic pressure on Putin and leaving no place to hide for those who help support his unlawful war.”
At the same time, the UK National Crime Agency issued a nationwide warning about network i7.
According to the British government, the network supported by the Kremlin has been used to route funds, finance supplies, and make use of foreign banking systems in order to get around restrictions.
