🔺Bessent: Naval blockade and sanctions will “suffocate” the Islamic Republic’s oil revenues

▪The U.S. Treasury secretary says that the combination of a naval blockade and broad American sanctions against the Islamic Republic has severely limited Tehran’s ability to sell oil and receive its revenues, and that Washington’s goal is to economically “suffocate” the Iranian government.

▪Scott Bessent, in an interview with Fox News, said the United States is carrying out “economic exile operations” against the Islamic Republic—an operation he described as “the biggest move to economically isolate a government in history.”

▪The U.S. Treasury secretary added that the naval blockade has meant no new oil from Iran is leaving, and, according to him, “probably only about 30 million barrels of Iran’s crude oil remain that China hasn’t bought yet.”
