Axios, citing informed sources, reported that Brad Cooper, the commander of U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM), has advised the administration of Donald Trump to stop the bombing campaign around the Strait of Hormuz, because, in his view, the operation has reached its maximum level of effectiveness.

According to these sources, Cooper assessed that the attacks of the past two weeks have significantly reduced the Islamic Republic’s ability to target ships in the Strait of Hormuz area, and that many of the additional targets set for air strikes have also been eliminated.

Informed sources added that Cooper told U.S. officials that if a decision is made to resume a broad military operation, the United States could attack 20 percent of the targets that were not hit in the operation “Furious Rage.” However, he emphasized that if no decision is made to return to a broad operation, continuing the bombing campaign from the past two weeks would not be justified.
