The American outlet said in a report published Thursday, July 2, citing the statements of current and former U.S. officials, that Washington was concerned that Israel would "assassinate" senior negotiators of the Islamic Republic starting in early April and during the weeks after the ceasefire was established. According to The New York Times report, Washington’s concerns on this matter were so significant that U.S. officials asked their counterparts in regional countries to warn Tehran about the possibility of Israel’s plan to assassinate the two politicians. Ali Larijani, head of Iran’s National Security Council, and Kamal Kharazi, former foreign minister of the Islamic Republic, were among the figures who were killed in targeted Israeli attacks.
