🔶 End of Khamenei’s funeral procession in Tehran; transfer of Khamenei’s body to Qom According to a report by the Islamic Republic of Iran’s state broadcaster, after the end of the funeral procession in Tehran, the body of Ali Khamenei has been transferred to the city of Qom by helicopter. According to officials of the funeral arrangements for Khamenei, the body will be kept at the Jamkaran Mosque until Tuesday morning, 16 Tir (June 7), and then, with a funeral procession through the streets of Qom along a specified route, it will continue toward the shrine of Fatimah al-Masumeh. In the funeral procession ceremony for Ali Khamenei in Tehran, Mojtaba Khamenei—the new leader of the Islamic Republic—was not present. Hassan Hasan-zadeh, head of the Khamenei funeral committee and his family, apologized to the public due to the change in the route of the ceremony. He said: “Because of the widespread presence of people and the fact that the thoroughfares were not open, this was not possible, and we apologize to the dear people of East Tehran who were ready to attend and to whom we were unable to deliver the body.” Khamenei’s body is also expected to be taken through a funeral in Iraq. Funeral ceremonies will be held in different cities of that country, especially in Najaf and Karbala. Those cities have been placed on full security, services, and logistical readiness. At the same time, seven provinces in that country have declared Wednesday an official holiday. Hashed al-Shaabi has been tasked with ensuring the security of these ceremonies. After the funeral ceremony in Iraq, Khamenei’s body will be transferred to Mashhad and laid to rest in his birthplace.
