🎥 Following a new wave of increased tensions between Iran and the United States that began with the IRGC’s attacks on commercial ships in the Strait of Hormuz, Donald Trump, on Wednesday, July 17, announced the end of the ceasefire. At the same time, the Islamic Republic has targeted what it says are objectives related to the United States in Kuwait, Iraq, and the skies over Jordan with missile and drone attacks.
“Farzin Nadimi,” senior research fellow for defense affairs at the Washington Institute, says in an interview with Iran International TV that from the beginning the agreement between Iran and the United States was so unclear and ambiguous that one could not label it a lasting ceasefire or treat it as a deal with a optimistic outlook. He explains that the conditions were such that there were ongoing clashes between the two sides.
Mr. Nadimi also emphasizes that it is still not possible to call the recent standoff between Iran and the United States an all-out war, and that the likelihood is high that, at any time, with mediation by neighboring countries, the fighting could be halted for a period.
