SpaceX launched 23 Starlink satellites aboard a Falcon 9 rocket from Vandenberg Space Force Base early Saturday, continuing the company’s rapid deployment of its broadband network. The mission lifted off from California’s coast and added another batch of satellites to the growing constellation in low Earth orbit.
The rocket’s first stage separated as planned and returned to a droneship landing at sea, a routine recovery method SpaceX uses to cut launch costs and reuse hardware. The flight marked another successful mission for the company’s workhorse booster program.
Starlink is designed to provide internet service from space, including in areas with limited ground-based connectivity. SpaceX has launched thousands of satellites for the system over multiple missions, making it one of the most active commercial launch programs in the world.
Saturday’s launch reflects the company’s continued pace of orbital deployments from the West Coast, where Vandenberg serves as a key site for missions headed to polar and inclined orbits. The successful launch and recovery underscore how central reusable rockets have become to SpaceX’s strategy.
