With the increase in executions in Iran, UN High Commissioner for Human Rights “Volker Türk,” announced almost simultaneously with the anniversary of the 12-day war that at least 56 people were executed four months after the start of the war between the United States and Israel on charges related to “national security,” and that 27 of them were linked to cases related to the protests of Dey.

This comes while the sentences leading to the executions during this period have not been made available to the public and their implementation has not been formally announced; however, based on what judicial officials said, a significant number of the executions during this period were carried out under a law that was passed after the 12-day war. Legal expert “Moses Borzin” says the purpose of this legislation is to deal with protesters, suppress protests, and intimidate the public for further protests. According to this legal expert, censorship of information about the executions—and also the impaired nature of information provided by the Islamic Republic on this matter—“may be more for the reason that it could steer public opinion inside Iran and the opinions of international bodies toward the idea that, in an action that is both right and lawful, they are fighting spies from other countries.””
