While being targeted by attacks at the same time as the Islamic Republic, the United States conducted a four-month secret mine-clearing operation in the Strait of Hormuz.

More of this operation was carried out at night; U.S. naval special forces divers, robotic boats, and underwater systems were searching for mines and neutralizing them.

Unmanned vessels equipped with sonar detected the mines, and then the divers or robotic submarines detonated them.
