The U.S. Treasury Department has expanded the scope of its sanctions against the export oil network of the Islamic Republic of Iran and added more than 50 individuals, companies, and vessels associated with Mohammad Hossein Shemkhani, the son of Ali Shemkhani, to its sanctions list. Ali Shemkhani was a former commander of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps and an adviser to the second leader of the Islamic Republic. He was killed in the U.S. attack on Ali Khamenei’s office on 9 Esfand 1404. His name and those of his family members have, in recent years, been linked to economic corruption resulting from their role in “bypassing” sanctions.
