U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) said early on Thursday, 25 Tir, in a video it released, that American forces, as part of enforcing Iran’s maritime blockade, detained an oil tanker that, according to the command, intended to move toward one of Iran’s ports.
CENTCOM said the M/T Belma oil tanker, flying the flag of Curaçao, was en route toward Kharg Island in international waters, but despite receiving multiple warnings, it continued on its course and attempted to violate the U.S. maritime blockade.
According to the statement, a U.S. aircraft halted the tanker by firing Hellfire missiles at its smokestack.
The U.S. Central Command also said that the maritime blockade of ships traveling to or from Iranian ports and coastal areas resumed at 4:00 p.m. Eastern Time on July 14.
CENTCOM emphasized that American forces will continue to carry out the maritime blockade with full readiness and are prepared to ensure its complete implementation.
