🔻 عراقچی to Japan’s foreign minister: Iran-Oman talks on the Strait of Hormuz have made progress

Abbas Araghchi, Iran’s foreign minister, in a phone call with Toshimitsu Motegi, his Japanese counterpart, said that there has been “significant progress” in Iran and Oman’s negotiations regarding determining a temporary routing for the passage of ships in the Strait of Hormuz.

He conditioned a return to normal conditions in the Strait of Hormuz on “the American side’s return and its adherence to its commitments and signature in the Islamabad understandings.”

The ambiguity remains over the opening of the Strait of Hormuz, while today Hassan Qashqavi, the spokesperson for the National Security and Foreign Policy Commission of the Islamic Consultative Assembly, provided details about how the fees for ship passage through the Strait of Hormuz are to be allocated.

He said that the revenue sources resulting from the implementation of the toll-collection plan in the Strait of Hormuz are intended to be allocated—along with the annual approved budget—“to people’s livelihoods in the form of coupons, strengthening the country’s defensive and infrastructural capabilities.”

The strategic plan for the Strait of Hormuz, which includes nine topics for the strait and three topics related to amending the law on maritime areas, was presented to the Islamic Consultative Assembly for consideration in mid-Mordad and referred to the National Security and Foreign Policy Commission.
