The New York Times, citing U.S. officials, reported that U.S. intelligence agencies believe that Mojtaba Khamenei, the leader of the Islamic Republic, has a greater inclination than his father to build advanced nuclear weapons, even though Tehran has not yet resumed its nuclear activities.

According to the report, the Islamic Republic has transferred part of the centrifuges to the underground facility “Kuh-e Kalang,” but Washington likely views the current objective of this move as protecting the equipment.

U.S. officials say Iran’s stockpile of highly enriched uranium is also untouched and remains available to Tehran.

An American intelligence assessment, which relies mostly on pre-war information, indicates that instead of building an initial nuclear weapon, Mojtaba Khamenei supports the development of a nuclear warhead designed to be installed on a long-range missile.

The report warns that the war may have increased Tehran’s motivation to move toward nuclear weapons.
