State TV reported on Monday morning, 23 Shahrivar, that Mohammad Islami, the head of the Atomic Energy Organization and deputy head of the President, and his accompanying delegation left on Saturday on a regular flight for Vienna, Austria’s capital, but were stopped along the way and did not reach their destination.

State TV attributed the incident to “U.S. acts of sabotage and the cooperation of some countries,” and added that Islami returned to Tehran the same day.

Hours earlier, Bloomberg had reported, citing a U.S. official, that Austria, under pressure from Donald Trump’s administration, had not allowed Mohammad Islami to enter Vienna. He was scheduled to speak on Monday at the General Conference of the International Atomic Energy Agency.
